Following the “3·15” exposure of the Tianjin factory and the shutdown of Changchun factory workers, the Nanjing plant of Kumho Tire was involved in a pollution incident. At this point, Kumho Tire's three factories in China were caught in negative news without exception, and Kumho Tire became a typical example of “everybody shouting”.

The reporter learned from the Nanjing Environmental Protection Bureau that Kumho Tire was classified as a company that needed to be rectified due to chemical smell pollution and nuisance. It was not required to shut down the company. Kumho Tire is currently preparing to relocate to other parts of Nanjing, but it is expected that it will be able to do so in 2013.

On July 4, the Nanjing Environmental Protection Bureau issued a list of the first batch of key polluting enterprises, with a total of 84 companies listed. Nanjing Jinhu Tire Co., Ltd. was impressively listed. Yesterday, the reporter was informed that since the end of 2010, Kumho Tire China has been communicating with the Nanjing authorities on this matter. The Nanjing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau stated in a document that Nanjing Jinhu Tire Co., Ltd. (Heyan Road Factory) was established in 1995 in Yanziji, Nanjing. “Since 2001, it was gradually surrounded by residential areas and since 2004, The complaints from surrounding residents have increased day by day.After listening to reports from companies responsible for environmental protection and on-the-spot inspections, the company has indeed taken a series of measures in recent years to transform the environmental facilities in the plant area, which has, to a certain degree, reduced the impact on the daily lives of surrounding residents. However, because the neighboring community is too close to the company's factory boundary, the company's production of waste gas will inevitably have an impact on residents' lives. Due to a series of problems such as production and land acquisition, the company will not be able to implement relocation by the end of December 2011."

It is reported that on May 18 of this year, the deputy director of the Nanjing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau Fang Guiping led the relevant personnel at the total number, solids, and municipal environmental monitoring detachment to carry out on-site inspections. Finally, he pointed out that “Nanjing Kumho Tire Co., Ltd. It will be relocated before the end of December 2012."

Informed sources disclosed that Kumho Tire (China) has not yet chosen the relocation site and it will not be able to relocate by the end of 2012, but it is expected to move out of Yanziji by the end of 2013. As Nanjing Kumho Tire Co., Ltd. is the first factory of Kumho Tire in China, Kumho Tire has no intention of leaving Nanjing. The new factory is still considering setting up in Nanjing, and is likely to move to an industrial park in Nanjing.
